Helen L. Dofflemyer

Helen Louise Dean Dofflemyer, 85, of McGaheysville, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2009.

Mrs. Dofflemyer was born on May 27, 1923, in Elkton, Va., and was theActive Image daughter of the late William Harrison and Lena Florence Gooden Dean.

Helen was a seamstress for many years for Sleepwear and Metro Pants. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Helen was the last surviving of six children. 

In 1943, she married Millard Garfield Dofflemyer Sr., who preceded her in death in 1970. She also was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Rudy Breeden, and a daughter, Florence H. Heiston. 

She is survived by two sons, Millard G. Dofflemyer Jr. and wife, Judy, of Bridgewater, and William F. Dofflemyer and wife, Mary, of Elkton; two daughters, Mary Lou Meadows and fiance, Samuel Sheffer of Elkton, and Barbara Ann Knight of Mount Crawford; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her pets, Boogie and George.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Jimmy Kite officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

We are so sad to hear about Aunt Helen. She was a wonderful lady and will be
missed. Our condolences to all of the family.

Very sorry to hear of Helen's death. I always enjoyed gathering eggs with her at
Switzer's farm. We had quite a few conversations as well as laughs over the
years. No matter the task, she was passionate about her work and she will be
greatly missed by those that knew her. May God bless you all.

I did not know Helen, but I recognized her parents' name in her obituary. I am
the granddaughter of Minnie Dean Lamb. Minnie was William Harrison Dean's
sister. I have heard "Uncle Harrison's" name since childhood. I am so
sorry I missed knowing his daughter.
