Dr. Jean Fennell Wine, M.D., 88, of Bridgewater, died May 24, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Wine was born July 24, 1920, in Harrisonburg, and was the son of the late Dr. John Eugene and Nell Stuart Fennell Wine.

He graduated from Harrisonburg High School and received his BS in Science from Davidson College in 1941. He earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in 1945 and served his internship in Baltimore and his residency in Internal Medicine in Richmond. He served our country in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II and the Korean War.

Dr. Wine returned to Harrisonburg in 1950 and joined his father

Dr. Wine was a very special person to my family. My mom worked with him and his dad for many years.(Mary Lee Henry). My children visited his home , Altee and his beautiful gardens on many ocassions while on walks with their grandmother. Jean was my mother's (Mary Shuford))first cousin. We used to spend so much time with him and Uncle John when we were children. We have so many wonderful memories of time spent at 57 Paul Street. Jean's parents raised my mother and provided her with a wonderful home. I just found out today (June 20th) he passed away. Will someone please call me at 614-855-4490?
