Ruth Elizabeth Dodson, 82, of Penn Laird, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Dodson was born on Sept. 15, 1926, in Elkton, and was a daughter of the late William Ashby and Sarah Alice Leigh Morris. 
Ruth was raised in the Red Brush area of Elkton and relocated to Washington, D.C. following school, where she was employed with Western Union. She later moved to Alexandria, where she and her husband resided for 32 years. Ruth enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren, and was active in introducing them to tennis and golf.
On Aug. 14, 1947, she married Eugene James Dodson, who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2008. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, John Morris, Amos Morris and Jesse Morris, Ray Morris and seven sisters, Eva Dell Hitt, Lou Lam, Maggie Breeden, Pearl Curran, Nellie Morris, Ila Chagnon and Irene Morris.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce L. Brown and husband, Wayne, of Haymarket; one brother, Owen Morris of Fort Washington, Md.; two grandchildren, Wayne Brown Jr. and Donna Brown; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Valentine and Jesse Valentine, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service, conducted by Pastor Wayne Wright, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will follow at Elk Run Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
