Margaret Baptist Lears, 96, of Harrisonburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community.
Mrs. Lears was the last surviving of six siblings and was the daughter of the late Dr. Harry and Esther Boyle Baptist on Dec. 21, 1912, in Ivy, Va. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Lears, in 1978.
A devoted wife and mother, Margaret was known affectionately as Marmee. Along with her husband, Walter, they opened their family furniture business in 1952 in Annapolis, Md. She owned and operated the business until her retirement in 1989 and relocated to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in 1991.
In addition to spending time with her family, Marmee enjoyed reading as well as bird watching.
She is survived by two sons, R.E. Lee Lears and wife, Trudy Gardiner Lears, of Annapolis, Md., and T.J. Jackson Lears and wife, Karen Parker Lears, of Ringoes, N.J.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at St. Mary
