Lena Meadows Hammer

Lena Meadows Hammer, 81, of Elkton, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Lena was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Fredrick C. and Addie Lam Meadows and was also preceded in death by two sisters.

Lena was a homemaker and enjoyed working outside in her flower garden. She was a member of the Lighthouse Gospel Church.

On Nov. 4, 1950, she married Norman E. Hammer, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Russell E. Hammer and wife, Debbie, and Freddy W. Hammer and wife, Darlene; one daughter, Shirley M. Dean and husband, Ray, all of Elkton; four grandchildren, Sandy Life, Chad Hammer, Shannon Hammer and Brian Hammer; five great-grandchildren, Eric and Dakota Life, Blaze, Olivia and Grayson Hammer, and one great-great-granddaughter, Tori Life; four brothers, Welford Meadows, Dennis Meadows, Dewell Meadows and Eugene Meadows; and three sisters, Leona Breeden, Lorraine Shifflett and Reba Breeden.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Lighthouse Gospel Church in Stanley with Pastor Earl Painter and Nona Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Gospel Church, 137 Mattie View Drive, Stanley, VA 22851.

Truley our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Mrs. Lena was such a Blessing
to everyone, always a smile and a kind word.But Praise the LORD we can all be
together again some day soon. May GOD wrap his loving arms around you and walk

My prayers and thoughts are with you all, Mrs. Lena was a wonderful, loving and
very spiritual woman and I along with many will miss her! I will miss her sweet
face and kind smile at Church, oh, but what a wonderous place she is right now,
in no more pain and with our Heavenly Father!! If there is anything I can do for
any of you, please let me know. May God give you peace at this time and this is
only good night for we will see Mrs. Lena again!!!!! Love in Christ.

Mrs. Lena was an amazing woman. She would give me a hug every time she was at
church, kiss me on the cheek, & tell me that she loved me. Its wonderful to
know that in Christ there are no goodbyes, & that I will see her again someday.
I will miss her very much. Lots of love to the family, & I will continue to
keep you all in my prayers.

So sorry to hear of Lena's passing. I enjoyed working with her at Debbie's Cafe.
She was a really sweet lady and will be missed by all that knew her. God bless
the family at this sorrowful time.
