Nelson "Bud" Ashenfelter

Nelson "Bud" Ashenfelter, 79, of Harrisonburg, died on Friday, March 13, 2009, at his home.Active Image

Bud was born April 15, 1929, in the Broadway area of Rockingham County, Va.  He was the son of the late William Bryan and Edith Ritchie Ashenfelter.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Freeman Ashenfelter.

He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War and then went on to work as an owner/operator truck driver.  For over 20 years, he worked with Smith Transfer as a driver.  More recently, he worked for Bob's Auto World delivering parts for trucking companies and was a member of the Mack Million Mile Club.  Bud attended Victory Fellowship Church in Dayton, Va.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Wyant Ashenfelter, and a son, Keith Nelson Ashenfelter and his longtime companion, Patricia Shifflett of Raphine; a grandson, Dustin Ashenfelter; two sisters, Eunice Ruth Mongold of Timberville and Connie Hudson of Stephens City.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with Pastor W.L. Sonny Henkle officiating.  Interment will take place at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, Va. 

The family will receive friends and family Monday, March 16, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1477, Harrisonburg, VA  22803, or Victory Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 85, Hinton, VA  22831.

I used to come to your home in Harrisonburg when I was a little girl with ...My
Mother, Cleta Eppard and My StepFather John Eppard...I remember how kind you and
Bud were to me..I am so sorry to read about your loss and pray for you during
this difficult time.

i am so sorry for your loss. i remember when i was a little girl my dad, Bill
Zirkle, and Mr. Ashenfelter drove together at Smith's. of course, my dad was
killed in 1972 in an over-the-road accident when i was 11 years ago, i have
never forgotten the people he knew!!!!!

my thoughts and prayers are with you
and i am so glad that his grandson got to know him. little things like that my
son won't ever have. it can mean so much.

I am sad for your loss. I will tell you that I really enjoyed working with
Nelson at Bob Wade. He was was a very good man and will be missed.
