Anne Morton Smith
SMITH, Anne Morton, 89, of Harrisonburg, Va. passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community, where she had been a resident for several years. Mrs. Smith was born on May 17, 1919 in Richmond and was a daughter of the late John Marshall and Annie Jamieson Morton. Her husband, James Warfield Smith preceded her in death in October 1980; a daughter, Carolyn S. McIntyre; and two brothers, John Marshall Morton Jr. and William Jamieson Morton, also are deceased. Anne graduated from John Marshall High School and as a young adult she attended Ginter Park Presbyterian Church. She later became active with New Hanover Presbyterian Church, which she attended prior to relocating to the Shenandoah Valley. Anne dedicated many years to her family, home, garden and animals. Her enthusiasm for gardening led her to become a Master Gardener in Hanover County. Surviving family include two daughters, Patricia P. Smith and partner, Frances Lussier of Silver Spring, Md. and Kathleen S. Wysor and husband, Frank of Moneta, Va.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday (today), March 12, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at Sunnyside Presbyterian Community Meredith Chapel. A private burial will be held at Signal Hill Memorial Park in Hanover at a later date. Memorial contributions may me made to the Sunnyside Fellowship Fund, Sunnyside Communities Development Department, 600 University Blvd., Harrisonburg, Va. 22801 or to a charity of one's choice.
