William Randolph "Billy" Merica, 56, of Shenandoah, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Merica was born Sept. 2, 1952, in Elkton, and was the son of the late Randolph and Ruby L. Mowbray Merica.
Billy graduated from Elkton High School in 1971 and had been employed by Randy's Citgo in Elkton, James Madison University, Mick or Mack and Ronnie's Exxon, both in Elkton, and Shenandoah's Pride. Those who knew him knew he had a strong faith in his beloved maker, Jesus Christ. Billy was a loving and appreciative husband and a very proud father, who took time to enjoy all sports that his son participated in. He also enjoyed NASCAR, hunting and fishing.
On April 10, 1982, he married Ruth Turner Merica. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, W. Chad Merica of Shenandoah; a sister, Patricia Dean and husband, Steven, of Elkton; a nephew, Michael T. Dean and wife, Stacie, of Elkton; two special nieces, Myra Patton and husband, Steve, Tara Meadows and husband, Chris.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the Mt. Lebanon Congregational Christian Church in Shenandoah with the Rev. Mike Reynolds and Jay Viands officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Merica home in Shenandoah and at the home of his mother at any time.
