Daniel Paul Cobb, 60, of Penn Laird, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at his home.
He was born in Rockingham County and is preceded in death by pa rents, Charles Lester and Ruby Wheelbarger Cobb. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Arey, and a grandson, Justin Thomas.
He was a graduate of Turner Ashby High School in 1969, then went on to serve in the Army during Vietnam from 1969-1971. He worked as a truck driver for over 20 years and was currently employed with Banta-R.R. Donnelley as a Maintenance Tech. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harrisonburg.
He continued his education by attending Blue Ridge Community College and Massanutten Tech. His course of study was Mechanical Engineering and he obtained his Journeyman Certificate from Massanutten Tech.
On May 10, 1974, he married Sue Thomas Cobb, who survives. Surviving family members include a son, Peter Thomas; daughters, Josie Cobb-Holloway and husband, Robert, of Grottoes, and Mollie Thomas of Aydlett, N.C.; sister, Gloria Smith and her husband, Allen, of Bridgewater; in-laws, Gayle M. Wetsel and husband, Virgil, of Mount Crawford; grandchildren, Nathan Chewning, Kathryn Holloway and Isaac Holloway of Grottoes; three nieces; one nephew; a great niece and a great nephew.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Father Tom Mattingly officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
