Henry Cletus Shifflett, 79, formerly of Elkton, passed away Jan. 23, 2009, at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pa.
Mr. Shifflett was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Henry J. and Hattie Shifflett. He was also preceded in death by a son, George F. Shifflett, a daughter, Carolyn Y. Shifflett, a brother, Thilbert J. Shifflett, and a sister, Anna L. Shifflett Eppard.
Mr. Shifflett graduated from Montevideo High School and the Fishersville College. He owned and operated the Rock Store Grocery on 340 and South Stewart in Elkton. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of the N.R.A., American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Blind Association and the Humane Society. He retired as an accountant with U.S. Steel and enjoyed hunting, boating, camping and collecting.
