Ethel Emily Adkins, 84, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Adkins was born March 17, 1924, in Laurel Creek, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late William and Ida Smith Donelow.
She was an active member of the Furnace United Methodist Church near Elkton and was known for her quilts and apple dumplings. She had been previously employed by Spotswood High School and Harrisonburg High School as a cook.
On July 29, 1952, she married William (Billy) Adkins, who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2001. Survivors include a son, James Ratliff and wife, Athylene of Viper, Ky.; a daughter, Penny Dove and husband, Darin, of Elkton; a brother, Tom Donelow of Chicago, Ill; five grandchildren, Tammy Eversole, Haley Life, Zane Dove, Robby Ratliff, Pam Ratliff; four great-grandchildren, Cassidy Eversole, Katie Eversole, Courtney Ratliff, Christy Ratliff; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at the Furnace United Methodist Church near Elkton with Pastor Nona F. Allen officiating. Burial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, W.Va. with Pastor David Chrisman presiding.
The family will receive friends Friday evening following the funeral service at the church.
