Mary "Curly" Elizabeth Shifflett Kite, 73, of Shenandoah, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Kite was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Elkton, and was the daughter of the late Wilson W. Shifflett and Gracie Lee Morris Shifflett.
Mrs. Kite was a homemaker and loved her family, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attended the Shenandoah Assembly of God Church.
On Aug. 8, 1953, she married Robert "Bobby" Lewis Kite, who preceded her in death on May 12, 2003.
Survivors include one son, Roger Kite and wife, Kathy, of Elkton; three daughters, Sandra Dovel and husband, Odell, Kathy Dean and husband, Buddy, and Tammy Meadows and husband, Junior, all of Elkton; two brothers, Raymond Shifflett and Fred Shifflett; five sisters, Phyllis Propes, who was raised as a daughter, and husband, Charles, Lena Shifflett, Margie Dean and husband, Arnold, Ruby Clemens and husband, Oliver, and Frances Herring and husband, Bucky; five grandchildren, Wayne Dovel, Carl Meadows, Lisa Shifflett, Nikki Lucas and Rodney Propes; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Shifflett and Skylar Shifflett, and one great-grandchild on the way, Abigail Faith Meadows; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Shenandoah Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Carter Dean and Rick Kerfoot officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Elkton.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church or at the home of her daughter, Sandra Dovel in Elkton, anytime.
