Alice Mae Lamb, 100, of McGaheysville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at her Willow Estates Home in Penn Laird. Mrs. Lamb was born on March 30, 1908, in Johnstown, Md., and was a daughter of the late Samuel and Clara Warner Bowings.
Alice was a homemaker and had previously been employed with the Elkton Farm Bureau and was a co-owner of Mother's Bakery in downtown Harrisonburg. She was a member of the McGaheysville United Methodist Church, member of the Extension Homemakers, and charter member of the McGaheysville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she was known as the pie lady.
On July 5, 1924, she married Claude Cecil Lamb, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1995. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Melvin "Gene" Lamb and Carl "Sharkey" Lamb; five brothers, Melvin, Charles, Frank, Lester and Roger; two sisters, Leo and Naomi; and one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
Surviving family include two sons, Charles C. Lamb and wife, June, of McGaheysville and Lawrence D. Lamb and wife, Karin, of Kilmarnock; a daughter, Verrell L. Birt of Bridgewater; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, three great-great-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. (today) Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at McGaheysville United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lagerveld and Pastor Wayne Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
