Harry Leon Allen Sr., 74, of Grottoes, passed away Sunday Dec. 14, 2008, at his home after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Mr. Allen was born April 10, 1934, in Grottoes and was the son of the late Charles Leon and Kathleen McInturff Allen. He was a member of the Elkton Pentecostal Church, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the mountains and outdoors and enjoyed gardening and sharing his crops with the neighborhood.
Besides his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by a son, Christopher M. Allen.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Reva Randall Allen, whom he married Jan. 11, 1951; two sons, Harry L. Allen Jr., and wife, Juanita, Elkton, Keith E. Allen and wife, Carolyn, Grottoes; two daughters, Eva Diehl and husband, Carl, Grottoes, Tammy Losh and partner Patsy Hoover, Harrisonburg; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Allen; four brothers, Ralph Allen, Lester Allen, both of Grottoes, Carl Allen, Waynesboro, Chester Allen, Elkton; two sisters, Betty Holloway, McGaheysville, Pearl Voiles, Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Amy Allen, Heidi Hammer, Carla Stickley, Donnie Losh II, Eric Scott Allen; six great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Mike Randall; son-in-law, Donnie Losh.
Pastor Travis Hensley will conduct the funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Elkton Pentecostal Church in Elkton. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Allen home at any time.
