Bessie Pearl Roach

Bessie Pearl Roach, 92, of Elkton, made her journey home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008.Active Image

Mrs. Roach was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Fannie Lam Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Roach; four sisters, Sallie Williams, Emma Gooden and Nellie Roach, all of Elkton, and Minnie Roach of Stanardsville; three brothers, Melvin Williams of Elkton, Ennis Williams of Barboursville, and Clyde Williams of Stoney Point; son-in-law, Dennis Mowbray; and grandson, Derrick Mowbray.

Bessie greatly enjoyed reading her Bible and was a devout member of the Sandy Bottom Holiness Church. She also loved her summer gardens, family dinners, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Roach is survived by five daughters, Margie Lam and husband, Ray, Vivian Mowbray, both of Elkton, Lois Shifflett and husband, Leon, Joann Shifflett and husband, Elwood, and Gloria Shifflett and husband, Herbert, all of Stanardsville; five sons, Leon Roach and wife, Linda, of Shenandoah, Warnie Lee Roach and wife, Betty, Freddie Roach and wife, Joann, Buddy Roach and wife, Betty, all of Elkton, and Gerald Roach of Farmville; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at the Elkton Pentecostal Church in Elkton with the Revs. Buzzy Dean, Eddie Dean, James Kite, Bruce Morris and Johnny Roach officiating. Burial will follow at the Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday any time after 2 p.m. at the Sandy Bottom Holiness Church in Sandy Bottom.
