Arbutus Gooden Godfrey, 87, of McGaheysville, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Godfrey was born on April 25, 1921, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Scott Thomas and Ruby Virginia Oliver Gooden. Arbutus worked for Metro Pants for many years and retired as a General Manager of production. She was a lifetime resident of the Shenandoah Valley and was a member of the Mount Olive Brethren Church in Pineville. She was also a member of many historical societies and is featured in an exhibit at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester.
Arbutus was preceded in death by two husbands, John Ritchie and Edward Godfrey. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Gene Ritchie, and a sister, Dorothy
