Daryl Wayne "D.J." Eckstein Jr., 22, of Harrisonburg, passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 26, 2008, from injuries incurred in a single vehicle accident north of Harrisonburg. D.J. was born July 6, 1986, in Long Branch, N.J., and is the son of Daryl and Diane Grey Eckstein.

Mr. Eckstein graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 2004 and was employed with Dreamer Enterprises Home Renovations in Harrisonburg and previously with Great Eastern Resorts. D.J. relocated to the Valley in 2002 with his family from Inver Grove Heights, Minn., where they resided from 1992 to 2002. He enjoyed skateboarding, automobiles and the great outdoors, where he was a passionate hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Christine M. Eckstein of Harrisonburg; his paternal grandparents, Jacquelyn Jone (Phillips) Eckstein of Asbury Park, N.J., and Clinton Wayne Eckstein of Portland, Ore.; maternal grandfather, Stephen Grey of Enfield, Maine; four uncles; five aunts; 10 cousins and his beloved dog, Baby. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Alicia R. Grey.

Pastor Larry Thompson will conduct a funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Daryl, Diane & Christine - We are so sorry to hear about DJ! I told Josh & Jackie about it and they remembered coming to your house in Inver Grove Hts and playing with DJ & Christine.
