Dorothy Lee Dean, 85, of Harrisonburg, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Avante of Harrisonburg. Mrs. Dean was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Harrisonburg, and was a daughter of the late James and Addie Shifflett Beach.
Dorothy was lifetime resident of the area and was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg. She was a homemaker and had previously been employed with the Daily News-Record and Sunset Bakery.
On June 6, 1954, she married James Morgan Dean Sr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1973.
She is survived by a son, James M. Dean Jr. of Harrisonburg; three brothers, Lynwood Beach and Jack Beach, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., and John Beach of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Audrey Lamb and Evelyn Loveless, both of Harrisonburg; one grandchild, Michael S. Dean of Harrisonburg; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at the Kyger Funeral Home Harrisonburg Chapel with Dr. Kyle W. Key officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
