Omar Wilson Sponaugle, 87, of Harrisonburg, and formerly of Franklin, W.Va., died Oct. 12, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Sponaugle was born May 29, 1921, in Pendleton Co., W.Va., and was the son of the late Harness Adam and Levy Moyers Sponaugle.
He had attended Christ Central Church in Upper Tract, W.Va. and loved hunting and spending time with his family. He retired from the Hanover Shoe Factory in Franklin.
On Jan. 17, 1946, he married Rosie Sponaugle, who survives. He is preceded in death by two sons, Earl and Terry Sponaugle, and a number of siblings.
Other surviving family members include five sons, Larry Sponaugle and wife, Trudy, of Upper Tract, W.Va., Jeff Sponaugle of Harrisonburg, Gary Sponaugle and wife, Kathy, of McGaheysville, Jerry Sponaugle of Grottoes and Mike Sponaugle of Staunton; two daughters, Sharon Harper and husband, Henry, of Monterey and Gretta Harman and husband, Alvin, of Grottoes; sister, Annie Kisamore of Circleville, W.Va.; half sister, Eunice Huffman; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Samuel Harper and the Rev. Edward Null will be officiating. Entombment will follow in the Eastlawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and at the home any time.
