James Leroy "Booze" Shifflett, 63, of Elkton, died on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born on Aug. 17, 1945, in the Beldor area of Rockingham County. He was the son of the late Clyde
"Booze" Shifflett and Alma Williams Shifflett of Elkton.
Mr. Shifflett retired from Fairfield Bridge Company of Fishersville, Va. He was a member of Local Union 1729 out of Charlottesville, Va. He was a member of the Elkton Eagles and was currently holding the office of president. He was also an avid deer hunter belonging to several clubs. Mr. Shifflett enjoyed life with his grandchildren and watching them in sport activities. He enjoyed life and inspired those who met and knew him. He never knew a stranger.
Mr. Shifflett is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Shifflett. Also surviving are one daughter, Stephanie Rena Dean of Elkton; one stepdaughter, Pamela Denise Dean and husband, Allen, of Elkton; one sister, Eleanor "Jean" Eppard of Elkton; two grandchildren, Xaviera Janae Dean and Alexis Sierra Dean, both of Elkton; two stepgrandchildren, Ethan Alexander Dean and Jasmine Tamara Dean, both of Elkton; four nephews, Lee, Tony, Tom and Mark Gibson; one niece, Angie Banks; and a number of great-nieces and nephews and a special friend, Sandy Knight.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Jonas Lam officiating. Burial will follow at the Williams Family Cemetery in the Sandy Bottom area of Elkton.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Elkton. Friends and family may also visit at the home of his daughter, Stephanie Dean, at any time or may call her home at 298-9097 at any time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kyger Funeral Home to help the family with funeral expenses. A benefit and dance will be held at the Elkton Eagles in the Shen Elk Plaza at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, to also help with the funeral expenses.
