Carl A. Whetzel Jr., 69, of Keezletown, Va., was called to be with Jesus, Sept. 20, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 29, 1939, in Columbia Furnace, Va., oldest son of the late Carl A. Whetzel and Edna Rebecca Whetzel.

He married his bride of 45 years, Donna J. Whetzel, who survives.

Whetzel was a graduate of Edinburg High School, Edinburg Va., worked at Safeway in Washington, D.C. for five years.

Mr. Whetzel served with the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1965, earning the rank of Airman second class.

He was employed as an over the road truck driver with Smith

We are so sorry to hear of Carl Jr.'s passing. I will always remember when Carl Jr. was 7 years old and came to visit me at the St. Luke farm. Carl Sr. put Carl Jr. in the pen with the geese ganders just to hear him cry. The geese ganders stuck out their necks and ran towards Carl Jr. trying to pinch and flap him with their wings. Donna, Carl III, Lisa, Richard & family, We have so many memories over the years as all our children have grown up. Especially all those good meals we ate at Edna\'s & John & Joan\'s. Carl ws. very special to me when I had some difficult times with health. He came when I needed him & through his blessings on me he ws. a part of me having better health. Our hearts are truly broken at the loss of Carl. We loved him. We'll never forget his frank and friendly manner or the pointy cowboy boots or the inspiring encouraging words that often fell from his lips. He left his mark on us and on God's world. Our thoughts are filled with loving and warm memories of Donna and Carl sitting on the front row at church. We know we will be parted from our dear brother for just a little while longer...just a little while. But we'll see him again, perhaps in pointy golden cowboy boots that stick out just beneath a white robe.
