Ellis William Dent

Ellis William Dent, 92, of Timberville, died on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Dent was born in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 23, 1916, and was the son of the late Andrew and Maybelle Ellis Dent.

He was a graduate of Washington Teacher College. He then went on to work as a sales manager with the Canteen Vending Co. in the District of Columbia for over 20 years. He also was a past president of the Lions Club. In the mid-1960s, he purchased a farm in Timberville to retire, but continued working, raising Tennessee Walking horses on his farm. After moving to the Valley, he worked as an independent carrier for various newspapers over the past 40 years. Even up until April of this year, he was active delivering papers throughout the Valley.

In January 1980, he married L. Patricia Dent, who survives. Additional surviving family members include his children and their spouses, Greg and Claudia Dent of Florida, Randy and Rosemary Dent of Maryland, Janice and Brook Barrick of Edinburg, Cheryl Daniels, John and Sharon Huddle, all of Harrisonburg, Catherine McLaughlin of Grottoes, and James and Corrine Huddle of Eden, Utah; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Marilyn Heishman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to your local Lions Club in his memory.

Online condolences may be sent to the Dent family at www.kygers.com.

Mrs. Dent -
I had the honor to work with Mr. Dent in Purchasing at the Hospital
and we loved him. He was quite a worker even at retirement age, had a way of
making us laugh and we hated to see him quite. He was a great man and will be
remember by all that knew him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your
family.

Mr. Dent brought the Sunday paper faithfullyto our door in Elkton for many
years. We were sorry when the paper was no longer being delivered in the
county. We had no idea that he was in his 90\'s. He seemed so much
younger.

I wish to send out my deepest condolences to my family- I married Mr.
Dent\'s Grandson Andrew, and I only met him once. It was actually my first
time meeting Andrew\'s entire family, and two years ago we went down to
celebrate his 90th birthday. As nervous as I was, the celebration that we had
for Mr. Dent brought me in to their family and made me feel right at home. I
will never forget how happy he looked to have everyone around him to celebrate.
Though I did not know him very well, and regretfully could not attend the
memorial, I know that he meant so much to all of you, and I know that you all
will honor him in the way he\'d want- wearing your Redskins colors with
pride. Sending my thoughts, prayers, and love to all.
