My sincere sympathies are extended to Flip's family. I was lucky enough to have worked with him early in my years at JMU. He loved the language and art of journalism & was happy to share his expertise while tutoring me, a "newbie" to the craft, when I became responsible for writing the weekly publication, "The Digest", for JMU Dining Services. I fondly remember Flip, first for his willingnes to extend himself, but mostly for his kindness and for his committment to the craft of journalism. Again, my sympathies for your personal loss.

I am sad to learn of Flip's passing. Like all who have had the pleasure of knowing him, I will miss his great spirit. He touched many lives in meaningful and positive ways and made the world a better place.

My deepest sympathy to Filp's family and friends. What a loss! but what a great presence on this earth. His integrity and character were impeccable. You will be missed, Flip.

I was so sad to learn of the passing of my college advisor. From the moment I stepped foot on the JMU campus, he became my friend and advisor both during my college years and beyond. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to help, especially aspiring journalists that could feed off his knowledge, wit and wisdom. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends, which is a very long list.

It is still difficult to believe that Flip is gone. I shall miss his thoughtfulness, quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, genuine interest in others, and his friendship. He was the kind of person who would sometimes send you a funny note or surprise you with a fun little trinket from one of his many travels. I've known Flip for many years and always smile when I open my email and find the occasional message just to keep in touch. He was kind and generous and really cared about his friends. Good-bye Flip - thank you for the memories.

I remember Flip from his years at LeMoyne. He was a year ahead of me academically, and light years ahead of me as far as how he presented himself. He set a quiet, positive example just by being around the rest of us. I was stunned and sorry to hear of his passing.
