Nelma Pearl Shepard, 83, of Keezletown, died April 18, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Shepard was born June 2, 1924, in Lebanon, Va., and was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Nannie Shoemaker Buckles.
Mrs. Shepard was a homemaker and had worked at Shenandoah Poultry and retired after 20 years with Dunham Bush. She loved to cook and enjoyed family gatherings, Bingo and gardening. She was a former member of the Corner Baptist Church in Russell County, Va.
On Jan. 25, 1945, she married Bert M. Shepard, who died Sept. 4, 1993. She is survived by sons, Jim Shepard and wife, Carolyn, Steve Shepard and wife, Jeanette, all of Harrisonburg; daughters, Judy McDonaldson, Fishersville, Wanda Hensley, Penn Laird; a brother, Garnett Buckles, Lebanon; sisters, Florence Thompson, Richmond, Evelyn Robinson, Tazewell; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and her dog, Drake.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Shepard.
Pastor Fredric Miller and Pastor Terry Koons will conduct the funeral 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Charlie Shepard Jr., Jim Shepard Jr., Brian Shepard, Mike Armentrout, Chris Armentrout, Gary Hensley Jr. and Cliff Baker.
The family will receive friends Monday (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
