Christopher Cornell McCarthy, 49, of Grottoes, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Mr. McCarthy was born July 17, 1959, in Harrisonburg, and was a son of Carrie Helen Boggs McCarthy of Grottoes and the late Richard Allen McCarthy Sr.

He had worked in sales in several states and was currently employed at Days Inn in Harrisonburg. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by four brothers, Richard Allen McCarthy of Germany, Zachary McCarthy of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Eric and Levi McCarthy, both of Harrisonburg; and two sisters, Freda McCarthy of Harrisonburg and Cheryl Knight of New Jersey.

The Rev. Jeffery Myers, Timothy Edwards, and Eugene Souder will conduct the funeral 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kyger Funeral Home, 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 to help with burial cost.

	To Family:    First of all do not know what to say! I work with Chris at the Days Inn! He was always polite to me! I work at the front desk and I am use to Chris coming and asking me for the keys and thanking me I feel like I am missing something Chris not come to ask me for keys it's like something is missing! I want you to know he was pleasant person to work with!! He will be missed!! Thank God he is not suffering no more but the memories will keep him alive in our hearts!!! I will keep everyone in my prayers and thoughts at this time and hope and pray that justice will be served!!!!!!

	i work the late night shift at the days inn so i only knew chris slightly but he was always a very polite quiet person. We will all miss Chris. Peace Be With You All

	I was sadden to read about Chris's death. I went to school with Chris and Freda. As I remember Chris from school he had such a gentle smile and kind personality. He will be missed by all who knew him. My heart goes out to the family for their loss and pray that closeure will be in the near future.
